ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE (FIG. 1) A novel class of secondary and tertiary amino alcohols are prepared which are severely sterically hindered amino alcohols. These compounds are useful, for example, in absorbent solutions for removing hydrogen sulfide from gaseous streams and are particularly useful for selective removal of hydrogen sulfide from mixtures which also contain carbon dioxide.
