ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A bacterium has been isolated which is capable of degrading surfactants having an oxydibenzene nucleus, such as sodium dodecyl oxydibenzene disulfonate. Accordingly, it may be used in biological wastewater treatment plants to remove the surfactant. The preferred bacterium is Pseudomonas cepacia OLSA100.
