ABSTRACT A glow discharge tube for emission spectral analysis of reduced measurement error, with an anode or main region, connected to a carrier gas supply to a first vacuum pump, and through a choke to a cathode region. A second vacuum pump producing a higher vacuum than the first pump is connected to the cathode region. The gas pressure in the anode region is kept constant by electronic control of the quantity of carrier gas supplied to the anode region.
