A holder for sheet or strip information carriers is provided herein. Such holder includes a transparent front plate and a back support plate having a mounting assembly for mounting the holder on a support and also having a hinge assembly between the front plate and the back support plate. The holder also includes a coupling assembly inter- connecting the front plate with the back support plate. The coupling assembly is adapted to hold the front plate in a use-position in which the front plate is parallel with the support plate and can retain information carriers between the plates. The coupling assembly is further adapted to permit re-positioning of the front plate to a position for exchange of information carriers in which the front plate is pulled down from the use-position, is carried by the hinge means of the back support plate, and is tilted forwardly from the back support plate. The coupling means is adapted to permit tilting forwardly of the front plate only after the front plate has been moved a predetermined distance down from the use-position.
