Abstract The specification describes a membrane osmometer having a pressure measuring chamber for receiving the pure solvent, a test chamber open to the atmosphere for receiving the solution which is to be tested, and a semipermeable membrane resting on a support plate. The invention sets out to perform four functions with only one sealing ring, when the test chamber and pressure measuring chamber of the osmometer are fitted together: a) stretching the membrane outwards in the direction of the membrane surface b) effecting a seal at the surface of the membrane facing the test chamber c) sealing off the pressure measuring chamber d) sealing off the test chamber to prevent the test sample from running out. This aim is achieved by the fact that, on its side facing the membrane, the test chamber has a conical annular surface which, when the test chamber and pressure measuring chamber are fitted together, presses a sealing ring both against the surface of the membrane which faces the test chamber and also against a cylindrical inner surface of the pressure measuring chamber.
