ABSTRACT The present invention comprises a process for the synthesis of hydroxyalkyl amines, hydroxyalkyl piperazines, or alkyl piperazines from alkylene gly- cols and ammonia or alkyl amines using a substantially soluble transition metal carbonyl complex catalyst precursor. The amines and piperazines are used in acid gas scrubbers to remove acid gases, e.g., H2S and CO2 from natural gas streams.
