ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method and system are provided herein which are especially useful for, but which are not limited to, the sealing of con- duits, pipelines, oil wells, gas wells, and/or controls, e.g. surface controls therefor, through which fluids, e.g. petroleum products, oil, natural gas, fluidized solids, etc. pass. The method includes the steps of first loading a hydrogel, drilling mud or any other viscous material into the downstream, outlet end of a lubricator cylinder (as defined in the specification), pre- ferably while the movable gland (as defined in the specification) is being moved upstream by hydraulic fluid. A double-acting hydraulic cylinder (as defined in the specification) is opera- tively connected to the lubricator cylinder, with the hydraulic piston (as defined in the specification) being connected to the upstream end of the piston rod (as defined in the specification) and being entirely within the hydraulic cylinder and with the downstream end of the piston rod being connected to the movable gland. Then a hydraulic force of up to 6,000 psi or more is applied to the upstream face of the hydraulic piston, which force is transferred to the piston rod which is attached to the movable gland to move the movable gland in a downstream direction. This thereby applies that hydraulic force to the hydrogel or drilling mud. The hydrogel or drilling mud is thus conducted to the con- duits, pipelines, oil or gas wells and/or controls, e.g. surface controls therefor and then is frozen there in situ, e.g. by a dry ice in a cribbing surrounding such conduits, pipelines, oil or Abstract of the Disclosure (page 2) gas wells and/or controls, e.g. surface controls therefor. This forms hydrate plug in the conduits, pipeline, oil well, gas well and/or controls, e.g. surface controls therefor to prevent the egress of the fluid (defined above) which is conducted thereby by means of the hydrate plug. This method is repetitive in that, after or during the movement of the hydraulic piston to its upstream position, the first step may then be carried out again to reload the lubricator cylinder.
