L'invention est relative à la formation de feutres dont les fibres sont disposées suivant des directions aléatoires. Ces feutres sont obtenus en déposant les fibres véhiculées par un courant gazeux sur un convoyeur perméable aux gaz, les fibres avant dépôt étant enduites d'une composition de liant. Le feutre constitué sur le convoyeur est soumis à au moins une compression longitudinale dont l'intensité est réglée de façon qu'il ne se forme pas de plis en surface. Les feutres obtenus résistent bien à la compression, à l'arrachement et à la flexion.
