ABSTRACT A mode selector for selecting a tape stopping mode by separating a pinch-roller from a capstan or a tape running mode by contacting the pinch-roller to the capstan has a plunger solenoid being driven intermittently a pinch-roller lever having the pinch-roller and a driving lever having a eccentric gear. The pinch-roller lever is driven by a first intermittentive operation of the plunger solenoid to become the tape running mode from a normal stapping morde. The driving lever is driven by a second intermittentive operation of the plunger solenoid to be the tape stopping mode, and then the eccentric gear starts to rotate for recovering the pinch-roller lever and the driving lever to a condition of the normal stopping mode.
