PRECIS DE LA DIVULGATION: L'invention concerne la synthèse de mercaptans tertiaires à partir d'homopolymères de l'isobutylène et d'hydrogène sulfuré par catalyse hétérogène. Dans le procédé selon l'invention, on effectue la réaction à une température inférieure à 45°C, de préférence comprise entre 0 et 35°C, en présence d'un catalyseur constitué par une résine échangeuse de cations sèche. On obtient ainsi d'excellents rendements en mercaptan tertiaire, tout en évitant pratiquement la formation de sous-produits indésirables.
