Abstract A perforated gel-supporting structure with a temporary seal attached to it divides a cylindrical dish into cylindrical compartments A and B. Micro- organisms are grown on agar poured into compartment A. The dish is inverted, the seal removed, and a second nutrient medium is poured into compartment B. Antibiotic substances produced by the microorganisms diffuse through the agar and inhibit growth of pathogens which have been inoculated into compartment B.
