ABSTRACT A tear strip is formed in a web of tear resistant flexible material by forming a pair of spaced parallel weakened tear lines extending along the length of the material to form a narrow tear strip therebetween. A lengthwise tearable adhesive strap is bonded to the outer face of the tear strips and adjacent margins of the web along the length of the weakened tear lines. When pulled outwardly from the outer face of the web, the tear strip acts as a reinforcing backing which causes the tearable adhesive strap to tear with the tear propagating along the weakened tear lines as the strap is pulled.
