ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The tampon is composed of an inner layer of liquid- absorbent material and an impervious outer layer which prevents the leakage of the contents of the tampon. Aperatures are formed in the outer layer for admission of menstrual discharge and wicks are optionally provided for facilitating the inward flow of liquid. A microbial agent which is bacteriacidal or bacteriastatic to Staph. aureus is optionally incorporated into the inner layer.
