ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved method is disclosed for reperfusion therapy of a mammalian organ which selectively prevents leukocytes from biospecifically adhering to vascular endothelial cells in injured tissue. Tissue damage resulting from the formation of reactive species (oxygen metabolites, proteases) is thereby minimized. The method comprises a step of administering systemically to the mammalian organ a therapeutically active amount of an antibody preparation having specificity for a LAC-epitope that is responsible for leukocyte-endothelial cell adherence.
