ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A locking snap hook comprises a snap hook body having an open hook shaped end pivotally attached thereto, a spring biased latch for closing the open portion of the hook, the latch including a latch body, a spring within the latch body for urging the latch body into a position where the open hook shaped end of the snap hook body is closed by the latch body and a locking device at least partially received within the latch body and cooperating with the snap hook body, the spring and the latch body for alternatively permitting opening and closing of the snap hook body by the latch, the locking device being capable of occupying at least two different positions in which, in a first position, a portion of the locking device rests in a recess in the snap hook body proximate to the pivotal attachment of the latch body to the snap hook body while another portion of the locking device engages a portion of the latch body in a manner to interfere with the movement thereof and, in a second position, the locking device rests in the recess in the snap hook body in a manner such that the locking device does not interfere with the movement of the latch body.
