A novel thermoplastic poly(arylene thioether) copolymer which may be cross-linked is provided. The copolymer may be prepared by reacting a dihalogenobenzonitrile, a dihalogenophenyl sulfone and a thioetherifying agent in a suitable organic solvent. The novel copolymer may be used in an injection moulding technique to provide a novel polymeric material which has good thermal resistance, solvent resistance and mechanical properties at raised temperatures.
