Abstract A self-emulsifying anaerobically curable composition is disclosed. The composition is rendered self-emulsifying upon mixing with water by incorporating certain polymerizable monomers with surfactant properties, referred to as surfactant monomers,in a concentration range of about 1% to about 80% by weight of the composition. The preferred surfactant monomers are the reaction product of a surfactant, containing an active hydrogen atom, particularly from an hydroxyl or amino group, and an isocyanate acrylic monomer. The surfactant monomers can be used in any anaerobically curing monomer or monomer mixture in which they are compatible. These self-emulsifiable compositions have the advantages of being readily removable from surfaces by washing with water, without the disadvantages of loss of bond strength, solvent resistance or migration of the surfactant to the surface of the cured composition. The surfactant monomers are co-polymerizable with the anaerobically curable monomers. These self-emulsifiable compositions are especially useful in impregnation processes where uncured resin must be removed from areas which are difficult to wash, such as small, blind holes.
