ABSTRACT: Process for Factional Distillation of Solid Carbonaceous Fuels and Apparatus Therefor In a process and apparatus for recovering materials from solid carbonaceous fuel sources, such as coal, one portion of a body of the solid fuel is maintained at a higher temperature than another portion, the higher temperature being above, and the lower being below, the boiling point of the liquids to be recovered. The lower temperature portion comprises solid fuel which has not previously been subjected to the process, the higher temperature portion comprises solid fuel recycled after previously being subjected to the process as the lower temperature portion.
