ABSTRACT A window assembly adapted to be mounted in an opening between inside and outside faces of a wall has a fixed annular frame formed of a metallic profile which will extend around the opening when the window assembly is mounted in the opening, and having a flange which will then be juxtaposed with the outside face around the opening. An annular seal will be compressed between the flange and the outside face and a sash frame fits snugly within the fixed frame. Thus the fixed frame will be pressed from outside into the opening to compress the seal, and will then be secured in place. The fixed frame is of L-section and has a relatively long box-beam leg lying within the opening and a relatively short leg constituting the flange. This flange is formed with a groove open inwardly toward the outside surface and receiving the seal which itself is flexible and thermally insulating.
