ABSTRACT Novel 3-amino-2-benzoyl-acrylic acid derivatives of the formula Image in which R1 represents the nitrile group, an ester group -COOR4 or carboxamide group Image R4 denoting C1-C6-alkyl, and R5 and R6 representing C1-C3-alkyl, R2 and R3 each represent a C1-C6-alkyl radical or together with the nitrogen atom to which they are bonded, a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring, X represents halogen, X1 denotes hydrogen, methyl, nitro or halogen, X2 denotes halogen, and X3 denotes hydrogen or halogen, are prepared by reacting Image with Image . The products can be converted into known antibacterials.
