A REAGENT AN METHOD FOR SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC ASSAY OF SERUM CHLORIDE WITHOUT THE NEED FOR MERCURY OR SURFACTANT ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention is a reagent and method for direct, quantitative determination of chloride in serum. The method, employing the reagent, comprises contacting a sample of said serum with a reagent comprising a suitable ferric salt and a suitable acid, e.g. a sulfonic acid, forming an iron-chloride complex, and spectrophotometrically measuring the quantity of iron-chloride complex.
