Abstract The present invention provides an absorbent article of manufacture having a first layer of a moisture-impervious backing sheet, a second layer of a multi-layer absorbent pad and a third layer of a moisture-pervious facing sheet overlying the multi-layer pad. The pad contains a moisture-pervious reinforcement sheet and a pair of cellulosic fibrous batts positioned on opposite sides of the moisture-pervious reinforcement sheet. The moisture-pervious reinforcement sheet contains an expandable section providing added flexibility while maintaining structural integrity of the absorbent article of manufacture.
