SYNTHESIS OF SILYL KETENE ACETAL FROM ALLYL 2-ORGANOACRYLATES ABSTRACT A process is described for preparing silyl ketene acetals having the formula, (CH3)RC=C(OSiRi3)2 , from allyl 2-organoacrylates. The process comprises contacting an allyl 2-organoacrylate with a trisubstituted silane in the presence of a rhodium catalyst; and separating and isolating the silyl ketene acetal. Silyl ketene acetal of greater than 85-90 percent purity can be recovered.
