ABSTRACT In order to be able to recover the desorbate of high- boiling point organic substances that have a tendency to form mists and/or low-boiling point organic substances that tend to decompose such as, for example, halogenated hydrocarbons and which occur during the recovery of the charged sorption agents during desorption, and in order to be able to do this economically with- out interference by residual charging or corrosion problems, it is proposed that the desorbate be condensed in a direct heat exchanger, with the desorption gas that is to be cooled below the condensation temperature of the desorbate being brought into contact with recycled desorbate that has been super-cooled suf- ficiently beneath the condensation temperature of the desorbate, and thereby cooled. To this end, the recycled desorbate is removed from a tank, cooled in a heat exchanger to a temperature below the condensation temperature, and moved into a direct heat exchanger with the help of a pump. Within the direct heat ex- changer the desorption gas which is to be cooled and which originates from a desorbing adsorber, is moved in with the help of a blower and cooled down to the desired temperature to separate the desorbate. The cooled desorption gas can be recycled.
