ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method is provided herein for controlling the starting of a vehicle which has an engine and an automatic clutch provided with an electronic control system which detects the extent of depression of an accelerator pedal and determines the speed of operation of a clutch actuator based on the detected extent of depression of the accelerator pedal. The method includes the first step of detecting the number of r.p.m. of the engine. The rate of change of engine speed is then determined based on the detected number of r.p.m. of the engine. Finally, the control of engagement of the clutch is stopped when the rate of change of engine speed is negative.
