ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A multistage process for permanent hair shaping e.g. waving, in which prior to and/or after winding the hair on rollers it is treated with a liquid hair-keratin-reducins permanent shap- ing agent. This liquid, weakly shaping-efficient permanent shap- ing agent can shape the hair in the region of the hair ends without damaging the hair ends during the reaction time. A consistent, hair-keratin-reducing permanent shaping agent, which has a viscos- ity of 50 to 5000 mPa-s at 30°C, preferably 100 to 500 mPa.s, and a more intense shaping efficiency as compared with the liquid permanent shaping agent, is then applied. The consistent perman- ent shaping agent shields the hair externally and thus prevents the admission of atmospheric oxygen on the one hand and the escape of a volatile alkalizing agent, as for example, ammonia, on the other. Furthermore, a good shaping effect on the hairline is attained by the higher shaping efficiency of the consistent perman- ent shaping agent without the danger of overcurling the hair ends. After an adequate reaction time the hair is rinsed and then treat- ed with a solution having an oxidizing effect.
