ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A heater suitable for heating the fluid in the bladder of a waterbed mattress is provided, the heater comprising an elongate electric resistance heating element of a watt density suitable for heating the fluid in the bladder of a waterbed mattress, a thermostat or other thermo responsive switching device in the heater in series with the elongate electric resistance heating element, the thermostat or device being set to open when the temperature proximate the thermostat or device reaches a predetermined set temperature stopping the flow of electricity to the heater and, to remain closed when the temperature sensed by the thermostat or device proximate the thermostat or device is less than the predetermined temperature, a biasing heater proximate the thermostat or device, in either parallel or series with the elongate electric resistance heating element either to the side of the thermostat or on top of the thermostat, the biasing heater for generating heat proximate the thermostat when the elongate electric resistance heating element generates heat, and means for connecting the elongate electric resistance heating element to a source of electrical power or other electrical component.
