ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Object detector for detecting studs within walls with an oscillator has a capacitance which is cyclically charged and discharged at a rate determining the oscillation frequency. An electrode is coupled to the oscillator and arranged to produce an electric field therearound. This field is partially discharged when an object is brought near the electrode to vary the output of the oscillator to permit detection of the object.
