ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Halogen and/or phosphorus containing polyols-polyesters obtained by esterification and transesterification of the residues from the process for producing dimethyl terephthalate with a polyol at least 5% by weight of which is constituted by a glycol having general formula HO - R - OH wherein R is a halogen and/or phosphorus containing aliphatic, aromatic, cycloaliphatic or alkyl-aromatic radical. Said halogen and or phosphorus containing polyesters polyols are used for the production of fire resistant polyurethane foams.
