Abstract In order to tauten the edges of gussets in tights to be sewn on a gusset sewing machine with an automatic feeding device, the following components are used; a vertical tube which is coaxially movable under a head and whose function consists of picking up and stretching, through downward suction, the body and the legs of tights held suspended from the head, and then gradually bringing the body thus tautened to the opening of the head; a sleeve inserted into the tube and projecting above the latter, allowing it to fold under and block the material placed between the opening of the head and a clamp that blocks the legs in the tube while the body is aspirated into the head; a basket with a hori- zontal, V-shaped profile, placed on the side of the tube to receive the body and the legs of the tights, suspended from a feeding device; and a sickle-shaped lever with an alternating horizontal movement at the top of the basket to guide the legs and the body of the tights from the basket on to the opening of the tube during the process of aspiration into the tube itself.
