ABSTRACT A device for controlled batch feeding of fluidizible particulate material from a silo is particularly suitable for supplying alumina from a day's storage silo to the break in the crust on a fused salt electrolytic cell for producing aluminum; the device has the advantage of being of simple design and having no mechanically moving parts subject to adverse effects of the cell atmosphere, heat and dust and being largely maintenance free; an angled feed pipe com- municates with a silo discharge outlet; an angled charge containment pipe communicates with the feed pipe inter- mediate its ends and forms an angle with respect to the feed pipe; a discharge pipe communicates with a discharge end of the containment pipe; and a supply of compressed air communicates with the containment pipe adjacent a closed end to eject material from the containment pipe to the discharge pipe; by briefly opening a control valve at regular intervals, compressed air is forced into the containment pipe and particulate material lying there is ejected.
