ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A portable alarm which comprises an electro-mechanical switch, at least one cord and a cord-retaining member. The switch has a cock member slidable in a first slot and a trigger member slidable in a second slot intersecting and oriented at right angles to the first slot. The switch further has a pair of normally opened electrical switch terminals registering with the inner end of the first slot. The cock closes the switch terminals when released by the trigger member. Both members are inwardly biased. The release of the cock member is achieved when the tension of the cord connected between the trigger member and the cord- retaining member is slightly changed. The cord-retaining member is attached to an object to be protected,such as a window or a door. The electrical plugs are connected to a power source and to an eletric alarm, respectively.
