ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A slurry heating furnace is disclosed wherein a plurality of heating tubes branched from a slurry supply system extend through the furnace. Slurry flowing through the heating tubes is heated in the furnace. When the slurry flow rate is high, slurry is passed through plural ones of the heating tubes simultaneously. At least one first selector valve is provided upstream of the inlet portion of the heating tubes to selectively switch the number of heating tubes in use. At least one slurry flow pipe is provided having one end connected to an outlet portion of the at least one heating tube through which the slurry flows and having the other end connected to an inlet portion of at least one remaining heating tube. At least one second selector valve, connected at a downstream side of the one end of the slurry flow-pipe, selectively opens and closes the at least one heating tube. Further, at least one third selector valve selectively opens and closes the slurry flow pipe. When the slurry flow rate becomes low, the second selector valve is closed while the third selector valve is opened to allow slurry initially introduced into the at least one heating tube to be introduced into at least one remaining tube via the slurry flow pipe.
