ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In aircraft it is known to display information about operation of the aircraft's gas-turbine engines, such as spool speed, engine temperature and fuel flow. The flight engineer or pilot must check this display carefully during start-up to ensure that there are no abnormal start conditions of the engine. In the present invention a processor is used to receive this information together with signals indicative of whether the aircraft is on the ground or in the air such as derived from an air speed sensor or undercarriage pressure switch. The processor derives an indication of the rate of change of engine temperature and monitors the relationship between the signals to determine when the relationship is indicative of an abnormal start condition. This is indicated on the display, such as by flashing the display of engine temperature.
