ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A device is provided which provides compensation for alterations in viscosity of liquids dispensed by gravity from containers such as those used in post-mix carbonated beverage dispensing systems. The device has a valve element which collects temporarily the liquid being dispensed and, as a function of the viscosity of the liquid, adjusts the effective size of the discharge opening in the container to compensate for that viscosity.
