ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Amidines of the formula: Image wherein R1 and R2 are alkyl groups and the sum of the carbons in R1 and R2 is from 2 to 16 are produced by cyanoethylation of the lactam: Image wherein R1 and R2 are as defined above, followed by reduction and, finally, cyclization by dehydration. The compounds produced are useful for curing epoxy and urethane resins.
