ABSTRACT An instrument for and method of measuring vergence limits of eyes of a subject. The instrument has a grid with numerous equally spaced parallel lines. Two dots on the grid are located on separate lines in the same horizontal plane when the lines are vertical. A headrest maintains the eyes of the subject a fixed dis- tance from the grid. Between the grid and the headrest, there is located an aperture so that the subject can view one dot with one eye and the other dot with the other eye. In operation, the subject fuses the two dots so that they appear to be on the same line. The grid is then rotated and the desired measurements are taken when the subject indicates. Previous devices for measuring vergence limits use prisms or lenses between the eyes of the subject and the objects viewed by the subject. It is sometimes difficult because of distortions to obtain consistent results with previous devices.
