- 88 - CONTINUOUS SPEECH PATTERN RECOGNIZER Abstract A speech analyzer is adapted to recognize a speech pattern as a string of reference words. A set of signals representative of the time frame sequence of acoustic features of each reference word is stored. A set of signals representative of the time frame sequence of acoustic features of the speech pattern is generated. At least one string of reference words is produced from the speech pattern and reference word acoustic feature signals and the speech pattern is identified as one of the reference word strings. The reference word string generation includes identifying successive reference word levels and assigning a speech pattern segment to each level. At each level, the assigned speech pattern segment features are time registered with the features of each reference word to produce speech pattern segment time registration endframe signals and time registration correspondence signals for each reference word. Reference word strings are produced responsive to the time registration endframe and correspondence signals of the levels.
