ABSTRACT The invention is concerned with novel sialosylcerebrosides of the formule (I): (I) Image wherein R1 is hydrogen or acetyl, R2 is -COOR4 in which R4 is hydrogen, sodium or methyl, and R3 is Image wherein R5 is hydrogen or acetyl, R6 is -C(CC13)=NH or Image wherein R7 is hydrogen or benzoyl, R11 is a saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group having 10 to 16 carbon atoms and R12 is a saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group having 15 to 25 carbon atoms; or R2 is Image wherein R5 and R6 have the same meaning as defined above and R3 is -COOR4, R4 having the same meaning as defined above. The compounds of the invention are useful as a tumor marker, a differentiation marker for cells having inducing ability of differentiation and synthesis intermediates thereof.
