ABSTRACT "PROCESS FOR PREPARING HETEROCYCLIC COMPOUNDS" A process for preparing an N-substituted nitromethylene heterocyclic compound of the following general formula:- Image (I) wherein n is 2, 3 or 4 and R is an optionally- substituted acyl group derived from an organic acid, characterised in that an N-substituted-S-substituted aminothiol of the following general formula: Image (II) wherein R and n have the meanings hereinbefore specified and Hal is a halogen atom, is reacted with a base, preferably an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydride or alkoxide or an alkali metal amide, in the presence of an inert solvent.
