ABSTRACT A device for internally clamping pipes, comprising a guide bar, being provided in the direction of central axis across in a hollow body movable in the pipes concerned, pressure chambers, each with a collar-shaped piston fitted movably around said guide bar, being provided on both sides in said hollow body, fluid feed ports corresponding to said respective pressure chambers, being provided on one side of said hollow body, the pressure chamber on the other side and one of said fluid feed ports, communicating through a fluid channel provided in said guide bar, and plural retractable clamps corresponding to the respective ends of the pipes to be welded, being provided around said hollow body at about the middle of the hollow body, and being actuated by said pistons. The device supports the pipes to be joined, from inside by protruding plural clamps, so that the pipes are supported with their edges held in predetermined positional relation.
