RAN 4070/61 Abstract Inflammation of dermal tissues can be treated by to- pically administering to the affected area an effective amount of a compound of the formula Image I wherein X is -S- or -O-; Y is -CH=, -CH2- or -N=; R is lower alkyl or hydroxy-lower alkyl; R' is lower alkyl, halo, cyano, lower alkylthio, carboxy or lower alkylcarboxy; and z is zero or 1; provided that when Y is -CH2-, R' is bromo and X is -S-; and when Y is -N=, X is -O-; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, optionally in conjunction with a compound of the formula Image II wherein R1 is halogen, hydrogen, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy; R2, R3 and R4 taken independently of each other are hydrogen, lower alkoxy or hydroxy-lower alkoxy and provided that R2, R3 and R4 taken indepen- dently of each other represent at least one oxygenated substituent; or R1, R2, R3 and R4 taken as an adjacent pair is methylenedioxy. The above active ingredient(s) can be conveniently applied in the form of pharmaceutical compositions compri- sing an effective amount of said active ingredient(s) and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier for topical admi- nistration, e.g. in the form of gels, creams, lotions, ointments, powders, aerosols, troches and suppositories. Composition containing a compound of formula I or a salt thereof and a compound of formula II are novel per se, i.e. without regard to the nature of the pharmaceutical formulations containing same.
