Abstract A hairspray composition in an ethanol solvent system possesses improved body as a result of the inclusion of an amount of an autophobic silicone copolyol which is effective to cause the hairspray resin composition to contract on the hair at between 20°C. and 37°C. The silicone copolyol is a polymer of organosiloxy units selected from the group consisting of dimethylsiloxy units, trimethylsiloxy units, CH3SiO(CxH2x)(OCH2CH2)y- (OCHCH3CH2)zOR and (CH3)2SiO(CxH2x)(OCH2CH2)y- (OCHCH3CH2)zOR where x has a value of 1 to 12, R is hydrogen or alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, y is greater than or equal to 1, z is greater than or equal to 0 and the sum of y + z and the amount of dimethylsiloxy units and trimethylsiloxy units is such that the silicone copolyol imparts an autophobic effect to the hairspray composition.
