ABSTRACT A support assembly for the releasable clamping of overhead lines or cables includes a clamping element pivotally joined to an outer housing within which a slidable shoe is introduced. The shoe is suitable to receive therein and in fixed relation a cable or line to be supported by the assembly, the clamping element having a protuberance or recess which co-operates with a recess or protuberance, respectively, integral with the shoe, so as to present axial movement of the shoe within a predetermined range of angles of the clamping element with respect to the housing, uncoupling of the shoe with respect to the clamping element being permitted when said range of angles is exceeded. The assembly avoids the possibility of collision between the shoe fixed to the cable and the housing fixed to the tower after withdrawal of the shoe as a result of an excessive traction force applied to the cable. This result is obtained by the invention because the shoe comprises a split sleeve placed, without any means of fixing it, around the line or cable being supported.
