29,293 PREPARATION OF 1-ALKYL-3,5-DIPHENYLPYRAZOLES ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a process for the preparation of substituted and unsubstituted 1-alkyl- 3,5-diphenylpyrazole compounds by reacting a 3,5-diphenyl (substituted or unsubstituted) pyrazole with an excess of dialkyl sulfate, in the presence of aqueous alkali hy- droxide. A typical compound contemplated herein has the basic structure Image in which each of the phenyl rings can carry up to two substituents, and R1 is a lower alkyl group. These compounds find use in synthesizing herbicides.
