Abstract: The present invention is directed to compounds of the formula: Image wherein X is a hydrogen atom, a fluorine atom or a chlorine atom and A is a group of the formula: Image or Image in which R2 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, R3 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and the nitrogen atom is bonded to the benzene ring. These compounds are useful as intermediates in the preparation of tetrahydrophthalimide herbicides.
