Abstract: An in-line pool chlorinator 10 has a water chamber 11 holding a chlorine container with bottom openings that let out dissolved chlorine and a side wall opening that determines the wetted depth of chlorine and its dissolution rate. Chamber 11 is molded of resin material to have a closed bottom 14 and associated water passageways 13, 15, and 16. A through passageway 13 having a venturi 17 is located below the bottom of chamber 11 for in-line connection with a pipe communicating with the pool. An unvalved inlet passageway 15 upstream of venturi 17 extends from through passageway 13 into the chamber bottom to admit water into chamber 11. An unvalved outlet passageway 16 extends from a predetermined water level above the chamber bottom down to venturi 17 to draw chlorinated water back into passageway 13. The upper region of the chlorine container is made gas-tight so that water does not rise above its uppermost open side port, and the upper region of an annular space around the chlorine container within chamber 11 is sealed to prevent air from being drawn into the chamber and entrained in the chlorinated water output.
