ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a polyphenylene ether com- position having improved heat stability. The composition com- prises a polyphenylene ether resin matrix and, dispersed therein a phosphonous acid or its ester of the formula Image wherein R1 represents an alkyl group, an aryl group which may be substituted by an alkyl group, or an aralkyl group which may be substituted by an alkyl group, R2 and R3 are identical or differ- ent and each represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group which may be substituted by an alkyl group, or an aralkyl group which may be substituted by an alkyl group.
