Abstract METHYL HALIDES AND METHYL ALCOHOL FROM METHANE This invention relates to solid acidic or metal catalyst-promoted halogenation of methane to produce methyl monohalides in high selectivity. Concurrent or simultaneous hydrolysis provides methyl alcohol and/or dimethyl ether in good yields.
