ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed is a process for the electrochemical roughening of aluminum or aluminum alloys useful for printing plate supports, in which an electrolyte con- taining chloride ions and ammonium ions, preferably hydrochloric acid and ammonium chloride, respectively, is employed. Also disclosed is a printing plate sup- port roughened by the above process which possesses a particularly uniform graining structure.
